Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron, has raised a dram to toast the success of the UK Government in negotiating a suspension of tariffs on Scotch whisky exports to the United States.
Mr Cameron said: “This is the news that the whisky industry has been yearning for, and will be welcomed across the Highlands and Islands given the importance of that industry in terms of jobs, tourism, and the local economy. It represents a huge boost for our whisky producers who have been so frustrated that their premium products have been penalised, all because of an unrelated dispute with the European Union."
“My warm congratulations go to UK International Trade Secretary Liz Truss and her team for achieving this result."
“I’m sure many people across the industry will be joining me in raising a dram to toast this success.”
