MSPs from the Scottish Conservatives, Scottish National Party and Scottish Labour have put on a united show of support at the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness for the Haven Centre Appeal.
The Elsie Normington Foundation launched the Haven Centre Appeal to develop Scotland’s first multi-purpose centre in Inverness for children and young people with complex learning needs.
The centre will provide support to children and young people up to the age of 30. A site has been identified and there are proposals to build three respite houses, a community café, specialist play centres, a community garden and meeting spaces.
The Haven Centre Appeal has the aim of raising £4 million to deliver the project and their fundraising team has already secured around £1.3 million.
Elsie Normington, Founder and Chairperson of the Haven Centre Appeal:
“I was delighted when MSPs from across the political spectrum agreed to back the Haven Appeal.
I am confident that this support will open new doors for us and will help us to raise the £4 million which we require before building can commence.”
Edward Mountain MSP, who co-ordinated the cross-party event, commented:
“The Haven Centre Appeal is a worthy cause and I am delighted that as Highland MSPs we can stand together, putting politics aside, to show our support for the project.
The Haven Centre promises to dramatically improve the lives of children and young people with complex needs and it will be a facility that is the first of its kind.
It is crucial that all MSPs from the Highlands continue to raise awareness and support the fundraising endeavours of the Haven Centre Appeal.”
