Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has welcome the announcement that the UK and Scottish Governments are now proceeding with plans to develop two new green freeports in Scotland.
Mr Halcro Johnston, the Scottish Conservative Shadow Business and Trade Minister: “It’s very important that there is no further delay in establishing the new freeports which form a key part of the UK Government’s Levelling-Up Agenda.
“As a Highlands and Islands MSP, I am naturally hopeful that the region is successful in attracting at least one of the ports. But I am sure that whichever locations are chosen, the entire country will benefit from the increased investment and trade."
Commenting on the opposition of the Scottish Greens to the new freeports, Mr Halcro Johnston said: “Once again, the folly of allowing the anti-growth Scottish Greens into the Scottish Government has been highlighted.
“Nicola Sturgeon's desperate gamble means we now have two highly paid Green ministers stalking the corridors of power doing everything they can to put a stop to developing our economy and creating new jobs.”
