Speaking after announcements from the UK and US Governments about banning Russian oil and gas imports, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“Nicola Sturgeon must now scrap her policy of opposing oil and gas exploration, even if it causes trouble with her Green coalition partners.
“We have to prioritise security of energy supplies while we transition to net zero.
“The United Kingdom’s oil and gas sector must be allowed to continue to play its significant role in keeping the lights on, as well as keeping a lid on the rocketing price of fuel.
“Political ideology must not be allowed to get in the way of the national interest.”
