Councillor Helen Crawford has represented Aird and Loch Ness since 2022.
Helen was educated as Alness Academy before going on to study Law at the University of Edinburgh and undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow.
Helen went on to have a successful legal career becoming a partner in a legal firm in Shetland. She was contracted by the Foreign Office, working with emerging institutions on human rights and the rule of law, mostly based in the Balkans.
In 2010, Helen opened her business in Beauly which has enjoyed 14 years of success. Being a local business owner, Helen knows the challenges local businesses face, including their reliance on thriving and bustling high streets and low business rates - issues which have long been ignored by Highland Council.
As a mother, Helen has witnessed firsthand the crisis that the Scottish education system is facing. This inspired her to stand up for our students and lead the fight to improve school resources and infrastructure and ensure school standards don't slip any further.
Helen spearheaded the campaign to declare a school estate emergency in the Highlands given the poor conditions of schools across the region. She also led the campaign to successfully u-turn the rates paid to ELC partners in the Highlands.
Outside of the Council Chamber, Helen is an avid Scottish Country dancer, committed business owner and political commentator on the challenges facing the Scottish retail sector.
